Floated under the company’s Renovation and Modernization (R&M) program, the contract was scrapped after seeking legal opinion, Press Trust of India reports.

Ansaldo is a group company of Finmeccanica, which is also the parent company of AgustaWestland, which is under investigation after bribery charges were leveled against it in the INR36bn ($577m) helicopter contract with India.

Unnamed sources were quoted by the news agency as saying that contract termination comes as the company does not want to get embroiled into any controversy.

Any information regarding release of fresh tender for the same contract remain undisclosed.

Located in Uttar Pradesh, India, the Dadri plant supplies electricity to Uttar Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Rajasthan, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Chandigarh, as well as to railways.
