The coal-based plant is located 35km from the district of Jhajjar and 100km from New Delhi in India.
The three unit thermal plant with an installed capacity of 1,500MW has been constructed by a joint venture company called Aravali Power Company, in which NTPC holds 50% interest and the governments of Haryana and Delhi each owns 25%.
The state of Haryana will own 750MW of the 1,500MW coal-based power generated from the Indira Gandhi Thermal Power Station.
Coal linkage is made from Mahanadi Coalfields of Odisha and will be transported through Indian railways.
Power generated from the plant is transmitted through two associated 400Kv double circuit transmission system to Daultabad in Haryana and Mundka in Delhi.
