NRC has issued final recommendation for licensing the Dewey-Burdock project following completion of extensive environmental analysis.
The report highlights no environmental impacts that would preclude licensing the facility.
With the license, Powertech can to construct, operate and ultimately decommission the facility, which would use the in-situ recovery process to extract uranium from underground ore and convert the recovered uranium into yellowcake for use in the production of nuclear fuel.
Powertech president and chief executive officer Richard Clement said that the company is due to receive final Source Material License by NRC.
"This milestone is the culmination of over four years of technical and environmental review by the agency with the greatest expertise in uranium recovery facilities," Clement added.
"This should also facilitate other final approvals from EPA and the State of South Dakota so that we can begin the hiring process and develop the project."
