RWE's UK residential supply business npower is to double the number of customers able to sign up to its green tariff 'juice', according to a report in the trade press.

The European Daily Electricity Markets (EDEM) journal reports that a further 50,000 homes are to be allowed to switch to juice, in addition to the 53,000 homes already receiving it.

The report adds that npower hopes to use a number of new renewable generation projects in order to serve the new customers. The company has the largest share of the UK green tariff sector, with 29% of a 170,000-home strong market.

EDEM’s report adds that npower is looking to introduce a ‘blue juice’ tariff, with energy sourced solely from marine generation methods. The juice project is a joint venture between the RWE unit and environmental charity Greenpeace.
