npower is implementing an average increase of 13.4% for electricity and 15% for gas from 31 March, 2006.

Kevin Miles, managing director of npower’s residential arm, commented: These changes follow massive increases in the cost of wholesale gas which has trebled in price since 2003. We delayed our price increases for as long as possible, and as a direct result, npower customers have saved GBP50 on average compared to British Gas customers over the winter.

Recognizing the impact this may have on our customers, npower says it plans to spend GBP120 million over the next two years on energy efficiency schemes, with a special focus on more vulnerable households.
