The company will use the loan to finance the proposed nuclear plant at Jaitapur in the Indian state of Maharashtra, the Financial Express reported.

According to a senior NPCIL official, the facility will be equipped with reactors supplied by French nuclear company Areva.

NPCIL is planning to put up six reactors each with a generating capacity of 1,650MW at the Jaitapur site.

French trade credit insurance company Coface will guarantee the loan for the power project, which is expected to cost approximately $18bn.
