Nova Bus, the North American subsidiary of Volvo Buses, has secured a supply order for 475 hybrid buses from the province of Quebec in Canada.

The order was placed by the Association du transport urbain du Québec (ATUQ), which is a consortium of the province’s nine transit authorities.

Delivery of the LFS Hybrid Electric Vehicles is expected to commence from the beginning of 2014.

Nova Bus president Jean-Pierre Baracat remarked that the supply order underlines the relationship that the two entities have forged over the years.

"ATUQ has renewed its confidence in our vehicles once again, and we are glad to continue to work together to further enhance transit services in our communities," said Baracat.

The buses are powered by environmentally optimized technology that results in 30% lower fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

Volvo Buses president business region Americas Stefan Tilk noted, "One important part of Nova Bus’ vision is to be a leader in green efficiency and electro-mobility. We believe that lower-emissions buses help meet urban challenges such as congestion and improve quality of life."

The order also includes an option for a further 1200 vehicles.
