Located in production license (PL) 338 in the Utsira High area, the Edvard Grieg field lies at a water depth of 354ft and includes 15 production wells, pipelines and platform with a capacity of over 160,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd).
The Edvard Grieg development had secured approval from the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy in April 2012.
The field, which is planned to commence production in late 2015, is expected to have a peak production capacity of 90,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd) and 1.5 million Sm3 of gas per day.
Lundin Petroleum president and CEO Ashley Heppenstall said: "Production from the Edvard Grieg field will be the major contributor in doubling our production to 70,000boepd by late 2015.
"Our production will increase further with the subsequent development of the Johan Sverdrup discovery located in the southern Utsira High."
Lundin Petroleum operates the Edvard Grieg field with 50% stake, while Wintershall Norge and RWE Dea Norge own 30% and 20% respectively.
