Norconsult’s office in Chile, in cooperation with experts at the company’s head office in Norway, is to evaluate the condition of up to 43 hydro turbines in South America for Endesa Chile.

The assignment is to perform condition assessment analyses and prediction of remaining lifetime of major turbine components. Based on these analyses, possible future failure scenarios will be outlined and improved maintenance practice recommended. The analyses will be based on operational and maintenance data from Endesa.

Endesa Chile, directly and through its subsidiaries, currently operates 50 plants in Latin America, with an installed capacity of approximately 13000MW (2008), and is one of the largest electricity generating companies in the region, as well as the largest power plant owner in Chile.

Norconsult’s contract comprises the review of 17 large Francis and Pelton turbines with an option for another 26. The plants are located in Chile, Peru, Colombia and Brazil.
