Noblis, Inc. (Noblis), a US-based nonprofit science, technology and strategy organization, has introduced a new suite of analytic tool, Total Emissions Analytics (TEAL), to assess and plan organizations’ sustainability strategies. TEAL is a full-featured, easy-to-use emissions assessment and strategic planning tool for the enterprise. The web-based software-as-a-service (SaaS) application can be used to evaluate greenhouse gas emissions, calculate carbon footprints, and baseline energy use.
In addition, the tool is used to evaluate what-if scenarios, calculate the emissions impacts of shifting corporate practices and policies, and visualize an enterprise’s emissions across a broad geographic area. TEAL also has a return on investment (ROI) component for analyzing investments in greening IT equipment and lighting. The reporting function produces ISO compliant reports and benchmarks performance against goals and best practices. While TEAL is specifically developed for professional services organizations in the commercial sector, a version of the tool is also being made available to U.S. government agencies through the US General Services Administration (GSA).
According to Amr ElSawy, Noblis president and chief executive officer, “We needed a sophisticated, yet easy to use, capability to implement and benchmark our sustainability practices and results. Simple carbon footprint calculators were not scalable to the enterprise. We expect the availability of the TEAL service to help enable professional service organizations and governments to think strategically about their business processes and “green” investments. We are very proud of our collaboration and work with the Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC) and the Greater Washington Board of Trade (GWBOT) to establish our region as a leader in implementing effective sustainability strategies and will work with them to make the TEAL service accessible to their member organizations.”
According to Bob Wassmann, who leads the Noblis work on TEAL, “With the emphasis the White House is placing on limiting emissions and the potential for cap-and-trade protocols, taking an enterprise perspective is becoming much more critical.”
Access to TEAL services will be through green.noblis.org, a destination resource for news and information on climate, energy and sustainability topics. Users of the green.noblis.org portal will have access to multichannel content on carbon emissions and the energy efficiency of buildings. The Web site will provide managers and executives concerned about the carbon impact of their organizations with the necessary information and tools to help them stay abreast of key events, reduce their carbon footprint, and mitigate their carbon emissions.
