UK’s Energy Minister, John Battle, said that the Government’s review of the nuclear materials accountancy aspects of UKAEA’s Dounreay Shaft Inventory shows no evidence of any loss of high enriched uranium.
Mr Battle said “The review found no evidence to support suggestions made following publication of UKAEA’s Dounreay Shaft Inventory report that high enriched uranium had been lost from Dounreay. The false impression given by the DSI report that there had been a loss of 170 kg of U235 between 1965 and 1968 was the result of a misinterpretation of a 30-year old UKAEA records, arising from a misunderstandings of the nuclear materials accountancy terminology in use at that time.”
