Nicor Gas, a gas distribution company, has launched its new Energy Efficiency Program to provide financial rebates to Nicor Gas customers for the purchase of energy-saving heating appliances.

Under this program residential and business customers will get rebates toward the purchase of qualifying natural gas-saving products, including water heaters, furnaces and boilers to reduce their natural gas consumption while lowering their energy bills and greenhouse gas emissions.

Nicor Gas has already issued $1m in rebates under its Energy Efficiency Program that runs through 31 May 2011 to help customers in the Nicor Gas service territory save energy and money through energy education, resources and financial rebates on qualifying energy saving natural gas appliances.

Nicor Gas will offer the rebates to single-family homes and multi-family homes served on Rate 1 and businesses served on Rates 4 and 74, giving customers credit for the amount of the eligible rebate at the time of purchase, reducing up-front costs on purchase of new energy efficient equipments.

Nicor Gas vice president of customer care Kevin Kirby said that the Energy Efficiency Program is not just about helping customers save money on new energy efficient equipment.

“This holistic program is about educating our customers on the benefits of energy efficiency and its positive impact on the environment and their wallets,” Kirby said.
