A new 300 kW hydropower plant has been unveiled in the Waslala municipality in the Atlantico Norte region of Nicaragua.

The new La Florida project received a grant of $2.6m to undertake studies and for construction, equipment, power grids, sustainable management and environment protection.

Construction was supported by United Nations Development Program in partnership with Switzerland, Norway, the World Bank and other institutions.

The plant will supply power to eight rural communities including Cubali, La Limonera and La Esperanza, reports pennenergy.com.
