The power station, which was completed in August this year, comprises three generating units, a 210MW Mitsubishi combined cycle unit, three Pratt and Whitney 40MW gas turbines, and a 60MW Rolls Royce open cycle gas turbine. It also sets an environmental benchmark in warm water discharge and emissions.

According to Aurora Energy, owner and operator of the Tamar Valley power station, the new power station output represents about 14% of Tasmania’s total generation capacity.

Peter Davis, chief executive of Aurora Energy, is quoted by the Examiner as saying: “Completion of the Tamar Valley Power Station is not only great news for Aurora, but for the people of Tasmania. This power station will play a critical role in providing our energy security in line with Aurora’s purpose to see the Tasmanian community prosper.”
