Steam turbine
GE incorporated a new design of steam turbine to boost efficiency in combined cycle applications. When integrated with the 207FA or 207FB combined cycle systems, the DX2 steam turbine boosts overall plant efficiency by 0.2 per cent.
The ‘Dense Pack’ design uses more stages of airfoils in the steam turbine, lowering the amount of steam energy drop across each stage and leading to higher efficiency. The HP section of the DX2 machine has 18 stages, increased from 11. The IP section has had an increase in the number of stages from 7 to 10.
