The new Director General of Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom, Aleksey Likhachev, has said his main task will be to continue the fast pace of development in the Russian nuclear industry and strengthening its safety culture. Likhachev said in an interview with the corporate edition of "Country Rosatom" that the offer to head Rosatom had been made by his predecessor, Sergei Kiriyenko. "But, of course, the decision was made by the head of state. And the enormous trust that I have for Vladimir Putin, imposes a great responsibility." Likhachev, formerly First Deputy Minister of Economic Development was appointed Director General of Rosatom by presidential decree on 5 October. Another decree appointed Kiriyenko first deputy head of presidential administration.
