The Renewable Energy Buyers Alliance (REBA) is led by Business for Social Responsibility (BSR), Rocky Mountain Institute, World Resources Institute and World Wildlife Fund.
Joined by Facebook, Microsoft, Invenergy among 60 others companies, the REBA is aimed at developing 60GW of new corporate renewable energy in the US by 2025.
Facebook sustainability director Bill Weihl said: "We know from our experience with initiatives like the Open Compute Project that openness and collaboration help everyone move faster, and we’re excited to work with the other founding members of REBA to help green the grid. Together we will all have a much greater impact."
Facebook aims to power 50% of its operations from renewable sources by 2018, Weihl told Bloomberg.
Microsoft energy strategy director Brian Janous said: "We are committed not only to increasing our purchase of green power, but also to working with new partners to bring even more renewable energy onto the grid where we do business."
Rocky Mountain Institute managing director Hervé Touati said that the companies signed more than 3GW of renewable energy purchase deals in 2015, tripling from 2014.
Invenergy president and CEO Michael Polsky said: "The extremely competitive and stable prices of wind and solar energy offer a tremendous value proposition for businesses in terms of economics and sustainability.
"As a founding project developer of the Business Renewables Center, Invenergy is glad to be supporting the launch of REBA to ensure US businesses can realize this value."
