Under the first £2.5bn framework agreement, the company will build new and refurbish the existing overhead lines over the next four years.

The framework also includes two optional two year extensions, and enables be the company to tender for high voltage overhead line schemes, with projects including the construction of new overhead lines and the refurbishment and reinforcement of existing infrastructure across England and Wales, UK.

Tendering is scheduled to start in 2014, while delivery of projects is expected to commence in 2015.

Valued at £800m, the second framework award covers National Grid’s Onshore Underground Cable Framework for the next four years, with an optional two year extension.

The company will tender for projects, including new cable installations, planned replacement and refurbishment schemes across National Grid’s 33kV to 400kV underground cable transmission network spanning England and Wales.

Balfour Beatty Power Transmission & Distribution managing director Neil Kirkby said the receipt of frameworks is recognition of the breadth of capability the company brings to National Grid.
