The new green line infrastructure alliance, which forms part of the two companies’ shared vision to help transform energy landscape in New England, will combine wind energy and hydropower to transform the region’s energy landscape.
The two firms will jointly develop large-scale, high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) transmission projects which will combine wind and hydropower to meet address regional energy issues that are critical to policymakers and energy consumers such as rising prices, declining fuel diversity and the need for more renewable energy.
Anbaric founder and head Ed Krapels said: "Our alliance is about more than renewable and clean energy; it’s also about achieving a more diverse and secure supply portfolio in a changing energy landscape.
"We wanted to create the most efficient way to meet the clean energy mandates of New England states and did so through innovative thinking on how to bring wind energy and hydro together into the market."
Initially, the alliance will develop a hybrid land-and-sea HVDC project, known as Maine Green Line, which will initially transmit 1,000MW (expandable to 2,000MW) of wind from northern Maine.
Cianbro Development will also support the project.
National Grid business development vice president Stan Blazewicz said: "We are committed to diversifying New England’s energy options and meeting renewable portfolio requirements as affordably as possible for New England consumers."
