India-based National Aluminium Company (Nalco) has commissioned phase I of the INR2.83bn ($48.4m) wind power project at Ludarva in Jaisalmer district, Rajasthan.

The commissioning of the 47.6MW wind power project is in line with the company’s strategy to diversify into other metals and energy business.

This wind facility, being executed through Gamesa Wind Turbines, employs 56 wind turbines, each with 850KW of capacity.

According to the company, the wind power project is expected to be completed by August 2013.

Earlier in December 2012, Nalco had commissioned a 50.4MW wind power facility at Gandikota in Kadapa district, Andhra Pradesh. This project is valued at around INR2.74bn ($46.8m).

Meanwhile, the company has outlined plans to establish its third wind power facility at Panchpatmali bauxite deposit in Koraput, Odisha.
