Indian-government owned aluminum major, National Aluminium Company (Nalco) will build renewable power plants with a combined capacity of 150MW in Odisha.
An announcement in this regard was made by Indian Minister for State for Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy and Mines Piyush Goyal. The Minister was speaking during a programme in connection with the dedication of 198MW wind plants of Nalco to the nation.
The wind power projects include 50.4MW plant at Gandikota in Andhra Pradesh, 47.6MW Ludarwa and 50MW Devikot facilities, both in Rajasthan, and Jath of 50.4MW in Maharashtra.
Goyal said: "Nalco has sought early allocation of land from the state government, depending on which the details of the project will be finalized.
“Nalco's plans for expansion in Odisha, shall not only boost the development of the State but also help the country achieve new milestones in the field of aluminium industry across the globe.”
The proposed renewable energy plants in Odisha will comprise solar and wind energy projects, reported The Times Of India.
Nalco chairman and managing director T K Chand was quoted by the publication as saying: "I am thankful to the Centre for allocating two coal blocks and bridge linkage coal to Nalco. With these, the problems of raw material securitization and availability of power for expanding capacities have been solved."
During the event related to the 198MW portfolio, Nalco had inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar in Odisha state on research and development under its Industry-Institution Interaction programme.
The aluminum company also signed a MoU with state-owned Midhani for high-end aluminium products to cut down imports of such items.
