India's state-owned enterprise National Aluminium Company (Nalco) plans to add 150MW of renewable energy plants in the country.

The announcement was made by the country's union minister for state for power, coal, new and renewable energy and mines Piyush Goyal at the function to dedicate wind plants with total capacity of 198MW to the nation. 

The wind farms are located in Gandikota, in the state of Andhra Pradesh (50.4 MW), Ludarwa, in the state of Rajasthan (47.6 MW), Devikot, Rajasthan (50 MW) and Jath, in the state of Maharashtra (50.4 MW).

Goyal said: “While the Nation is transforming into a global leader, under Prime Minister’s Swadeshi Movement, it is heartening that Navratna PSU Nalco is taking an active part in this endeavour.

“Nalco’s plans for expansion in Odisha, shall not only boost the development of the State but also help the country achieve new milestones in the field of aluminium industry across the globe.”

Nalco also has plans to increase its renewable energy capacity by an additional 150MW in the state of Odisha. The public sector undertaking is seeking land allocation from the state government for the green power plants.

The proposed renewable energy projects will include solar and wind energy plants, reported The Times of India.

Goyal was quoted by the publication as saying: ""Nalco has sought early allocation of land from the state government, depending on which the details of the project will be finalized."
