NAES was selected by Kodiak Electric Association for an 11.25MW vertical pelton turbine/generator unit at the Terror Lake project, which is a remote site on Kodiak Island.
Installation of the third turbine at the facility will enhance the hydroelectric plant’s total power capacity to 31MW.
The new turbine is expected to begin operations by October 2013.
NAES Power Contractors will offer the labor and supervision services for installing the turbine as well as required ancillary equipment in the existing powerhouse.
The Terror Lake hydroelectric project enables Kodiak to advance its plans to generate 95% of electricity from renewable energy by 2020.
The city of Kodiak, the US Coast Guard Support Center and the communities of Chiniak, Pasagshak and Port Lions will benefit from the project through cost-effective and sustainably generated power.
