Under the first contract awarded by Mira Power, worth $350m, MWH will provide engineering services for the 102MW Gulpur hydropower project located on the Poonch River in the Kotli district of Azad Kashmir.
As part of a $17.9m contract awarded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID), MWH will perform an environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) at the Diamer-Bhasha Dam project site.
The estimated $14bn Diamer-Bhasha Dam project is expected to supply 4,500MW of hydropower to the national grid as well as extend the life of the Tarbela Dam by 35 years by reducing downstream siltation, and providing flood control in the area and storage for irrigation use.
Expected to provide enough energy to power more than 50,000 households, the Gulpur hydropower project is the third privately-developed hydro facility in Pakistan.
Earlier, MWH carried out on-site field reviews and advised on the ultimate design of the project, which is scheduled to be completed in August 2018, in order to reduce impact on the environment and local communities.
