The upgrade to smart meters is anticipated to make the group ready for the smart grid by enabling crucial optimizations of grid management and administration.

The contract follows the long-awaited announcement of the Danish Energy Agency that all electricity meters must be remotely read by the end of 2020, helping consumers to track their consumption hour by hour.

MV Group spokesman and RAH Service technical manager Per Nielsen said the company is looking forward to offer the most modern technology on the market to the customers that will enable them to follow their energy usage in detail and decrease it accordingly with the meter replacements.

"There is no doubt that our new smart metering system will give all companies a lower total cost per year, and we expect a payback time of just 7-10 years,” Nielsen added.

Under the contract, the company will deliver its OMNIA Smart Grid suite that will comprise all supply forms in the areas including electricity, heat and water meters.

Connected to the same system, all meters will deliver big data to the utilities, who can benefit from a fine grained picture of supply and consumption.

The contract and the roll-out of smart meters for the MV Group are the manifestation of the Danish Government’s progressive Smart Grid Strategy published in April 2013, which seeks to make the grid intelligent and ready for the green transition.
