Brazilian energy firm MPX Energia has won an auction to construct a natural gas-fired power plant with an installed capacity of 500MW in Brazil.

This combined-cycle power plant will be built in the municipality of Santo Antonio dos Lopes in the Brazilian state of Maranhao.

The company has already awarded a contract to Initec Energia for the construction of this facility which will be equipped with GE turbines.

According to the company, the plant construction works are scheduled to begin in a few weeks and the facility is expected to commence operations in 2014.
