Motiva Enterprise, an equal joint venture between Royal Dutch Shell and Saudi Amarco, has temporarily shut down its Port Arthur Refinery (PAR) after reports of leak at the crude unit of the facility.
Located in the Port Arthur in Texas, US, the oil refinery was recently upgraded by 325,000 barrels per day (bpd) taking the total capacity to 600,000bpd and can manage most grades of crudes, including lowest quality.
Royal Dutch Shell spokeswoman Kimberly Windon was quoted by Wall Street Journal as saying that the company expects restarting the crude distillation unit in early part of 2013.
"We anticipate making the necessary adjustments/repairs and returning the unit to normal operation in an expeditious manner," Windon added.
The new crude unit, which was restarted after many repairs since first commissioned in May 2012, was again shut down.
