Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) of India has won a turnkey order valued at over US$36M for the100MW Kuttiyadi hydroelectric plant in the Kerala region of the country.

Under the terms of the contract, BHEL now has until 2007 to undertake the whole scope of the project including its design, production, supply, installation and commissioning.

The plant equipment is to include two 50MW Vertical Pelton turbines, synchronous generators, transformers, microprocessor controls and a 110kV switchyard.

The power house will use a 625m water head at the Kuttiyadi river to generate electricity, says BHEL.

The Kuttiyadi plant, to be built at Kakkayam, will add to a list of ten hydro power generating sets with a total capacity of 336MW already installed by BHEL in Kerala including Idamalayar, Kakkad and Kallada.
