Molex Incorporated (Molex), a US-based supplier of interconnect products, has formed a strategic alliance with Leviton Manufacturing Company, Inc. (Leviton) to deliver LED lighting solutions to manufacturers of commercial, industrial and residential lighting fixtures. The collaboration will align Molex’s Transcend Lighting Series of LED products with Leviton’s wide distribution and sales networks, helping to drive the adoption of LED light source technology to fixture manufacturers worldwide.
“The Transcend line of easy-to-implement, plug-and-play LED products overcomes many of the existing barriers which have prevented the widespread adoption of this key light source technology by today’s fixture manufacturers. Molex’s superior technology and efficient integration solution overcomes many of these implementation issues, and we are pleased to partner with them on this exciting new venture,” stated Chris Doveala, vice president (VP) of Leviton’s OEM business.
“Until now, the lighting market lacked self-contained, modular LED products that effectively addressed the needs of today’s fixture manufacturers. Leviton’s long-standing presence in the lighting industry combined with its extensive distribution and sales networks make it the ideal partner for this exciting joint initiative,” stated Mike Picini, VP of solid state lighting, Molex.
This new product offering allows fixture manufacturers to concentrate on their designs by enabling the seamless integration of new, high-efficacy, solid state LED technology to convert the existing light fixtures in the market or to design in new fixture production process. These products provided exclusively through Leviton are compact, interchangeable modules that address issues like precise heat and current management and also advanced illumination. The products are dimmable using Leviton dimmers and can connect to fixtures by using Leviton GU24 base sockets.
The first two products in the line will be introduced at 2009 International Lightfair show being held from May 5 to May 7, 2009 at the Javits Center in New York City. They incorporate: the Transcend RM2 which offers efficient LED directional light with a variety of beam intensity and angular distribution, and the Transcend PM3,which offers a diffused optic for ambient or decorative light . Both products are based on the Acriche 4W AC LED from Seoul Semiconductor, and can be directly plugged into the AC line voltage without a converter or separate power supply.
