Emerald Ace is equipped with a hybrid electric power supply system. It combines a 160kW solar generation system with lithium-ion batteries that can store some 2.2MWh of electricity.
When berthed at the pier, diesel engines of the carrier completely shut down and power stored n the lithium-ion batteries provide all the power necessary.
Solar power generation system onboard generates power which is then stored in the lithium-ion batteries.
The solar power generation system has been jointly developed by MHI and the energy company of the Panasonic group.
According to the company the hybrid car carrier was built as world’s first hybrid variety.
