According to the company, the submittal of the Chiligatoro project’s water contract is a necessary step in the process for congressional approval. The water contract assigns and verifies the volume of water used by the hydroelectric project design.

The contract ensures the water used by the hydroelectric project does not negatively impact the surrounding communities, Minerco said. The environmental impact study for the Chiligatoro project has also been submitted to SERNA for approval.

Minerco has also obtained rights to the $140m, 30-year operations contract with the Honduran government for the hydroelectric project.

The Chiligatoro project is located in the Municipality of Intibuca in the Department of Intibuca, Honduras.
