MHI is to build its sixth geothermal in Kenya

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has received a full turnkey order from Kenya Electricity Generating Co (KenGen) to build a 35 MW geothermal power generation plant, the third unit at the company’s Olkaria II station located approximately 100 km northwest of Nairobi.

The new construction initiative is expected to become a Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project, and the new plant is slated to go on-stream by the end of December 2009.

The plant on order will consist of a steam turbine, condenser, generator, peripheral equipment, electrical facilities and a control system.

MHI has already supplied five geothermal plants to KenGen
