Mexican state power utility Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE) has awarded the construction of the La Yesca hydro project to the lowest bidder, which tendered US$768M to complete the scheme by mid-2012.

The winning bidder is Ingenieros Civiles Asociados, Promotora e Inversora Adisa, La Peninsular Compania Constructora, and Constructora de Proyectos Hidroelectricos, which is due to commence works later this month after providing required guarantees and signing the contract.

CFE is developing the 750MW La Yesca hydro scheme on the Santiago river, and the scheme will involve construction of a 220m high dam, located approximately 105km north west of Guadalajara.

Rival bids submitted a month ago were US$808M and US$856M, respectively.

The La Yesca scheme is to be completed within 1720 days, being commissioned by June 2012. It is expected that approximately 10,000 jobs will be created during the construction phase, CFE said.
