IT firm Mellon Technologies, the parent company of Mellon Group of Companies, has introduced a new gift card to the Greek retail market that it claims can easily be integrated into retailers' infrastructures.

Mellon Technologies claims that its new gift card offering is a simple and flexible product that offers numerous design options to choose from, making it an attractive marketing tool for businesses.

Gift cards are very popular in the US and western European markets, and constitute a simple yet inventive solution to use as a present, but also a significant cost effective tool to enhance customer loyalty, noted Peggy Guelestathi, product unit manager of card solutions at Mellon Technologies. In essence, these are prepaid cards of different stored value, which both consumers and companies can purchase from a store and offer to their family members, friends, employees or partners.

The most recent gift card application developed by Mellon based on this model was for Greek Carrefour-owned hypermarket and supermarket Champion Marinopoulos, which issued cards of four different denominations that are now offered through the retailer’s hypermarket and supermarket network across Greece.

Consumers can chose the card they want and pay using the existing network of POS terminals to ‘charge’ the card with the corresponding amount.
