THE TASMANIAN CONSERVATION Trust (TCT) has rejected calls from the state government to withdraw its Federal Court appeal against the approval of the Meander dam project.

Tasmania’s primary industries minister Bryan Green says new research on a species of heath has disproved one of the cornerstones of the trust’s case. Protecting a specific species of heath was one of the conditions placed on the project’s approval but a plant expert says the species is not found in the Meander Valley.
TCT says while the claim relative to heath has yet to be verified, their claim is not based on that issue.
