Matrix’s scope of supply will comprise subsea installation buoyancy ranging from 0.5t to 10t to the Gorgon Project, which is operated by Chevron.
Manufactured in-house at Matrix’s new 20,000m² composites syntactic foam plant in Henderson, Western Australia, the buoyancy will be used to aid tie-in operations in water depths of up to 4,429ft.
Matrix CEO Aaron Begley said the contract highlights the company’s position in the manufacture and supply of subsea buoyancy products.
"Not only are we manufacturing the installation buoyancy, we are also using our fabrication and machining capabilities to make the associated tooling and through members, all under the one roof," Begley added.
Operated by an Australian subsidiary of Chevron, the Gorgon Project is developing the Gorgon and Jansz-Io gas fields, located between 130 and 200km off the northwest coast of Western Australia within the greater Gorgon area.
It includes a three-train construction, 15.6 million tons per annum liquefied natural gas facility on Barrow Island and a domestic gas plant with the capacity to provide 300 terajoules of gas per day to Western Australia.
