Marlabs, Inc. (Marlabs) has been selected by Consert, Inc. (Consert) to build a smart grid energy management solution. This solution will allow a utility to better manage overall energy usage. The new energy management solution enable consumers to control home power usage by creating their own energy schedule for key home devices, which in turn communicated to load management systems at the utility end. The utilities can better manage energy demand and consumers can cut their utility bills.
‘Consert is a leader in the design and implementation of intelligent energy distribution and management solutions, dedicated to a secure and clean energy future,’ said Joseph W. Forbes, Jr., chief operating officer of Consert. ‘Our solution will not only provide savings of up to 15% to families and small businesses, but actually allow distributing utilities to lower demand peaks. The choice of Marlabs as our technology partner was based on a number of factors such as their systems integration experience, software engineering expertise, and quality systems. That Marlabs, as an IBM Regional Systems Integrator, could help us effectively leverage IBM technologies further helped our decision.’
‘It is an honor to support Consert on this path-breaking energy management initiative,’ added Jeff Holden, vice president, Marlabs. ‘Based on real-time two-way response techniques, the system will create a virtual power plant, promote green renewable energy, and improve efficiency of the grid.’
‘We are excited to be selected by Consert for this project of national relevance,’ said Marlabs CEO Siby Vadakekkara. ‘I believe that such an integrated smart grid solution — benefiting both the utility and its consumers — will be a first for the industry. This also presents an opportunity for Marlabs to play a role in transforming our country’s electric power infrastructure and creating new green jobs, while aligning with the Obama administration plan for an Internet-based smart grid.’
