The companies did not disclose the financial details of the project which is expected to upgrade Marathon’s Wellsville river terminal to accommodate the additional volume for loading onto barges.
The scope of the project work also includes building a new truck on the property leased by Harvest Pipeline which is adjacent to Marathon’s facility.
The modifications will result in up to 24,000 barrels per day (bpd) of truck unloading capacity and a terminal with loading capacity of up to 50,000bpd onto barges on the Ohio River at Wellsville, Ohio.
Marathon Petroleum Transportation and Logistics senior vice president George Shaffner said the project will strengthen the position of the companies and will benefits its customers.
"With two of our refineries literally on top of the Utica shale formation, we are committed to positioning ourselves as the customer of choice for liquids production from the Utica," Shaffner said.
Harvest Pipeline president Steve Jacobs said the partnership will help producers market their Utica and Marcellus production
"This will help provide maximum value from oil produced in the region," Jacobs said.
