Marathon Oil Company has received approval from the Montana Board of Oil & Gas Conservation to drill the horizontal Bakken/Three Forks well located in Montana, US.
Marathon is the owner of the NW/4NW/4 160 acres of Section 1, which have been acquired through the stateline project.
Mountainview Energy owns a 12.5% working interest in the acreage.
Previously, several producing wells have been drilled and completed in the Bakken to the North, East and South at the company’s acreage.
The company’s intends to acquire more Williston Basin and South Alberta Bakken acreage as it targets the Bakken/Three Forks Shale.
It also plans to drill and complete the horizontal wells on the company’s existing acreage while pursuing non-operated working interests in Bakken and Three Fork wells in the Williston Basin.
