The approval by the Ministry of Energy and Minerals is said to be the first uranium mining license granted in the territorial country.

Mantra Tanzania, meanwhile, is a subsidiary of Mantra Resources that was wholly acquired by Russian uranium company AtomRedMetZoloto (ARMZ) in 2012.

Another of ARMZ’s subsidiary Uranium One is mandated to operate the Mkuju project that has the mineral resource base of 45.9 thousand tons of uranium.

Commenting on the approval, Uranium One president Vadim Jivov remarked that acquiring the special mining license that is the first to be granted in the country is an outcome of two-years of persistent efforts.

"Mkuju River is the first project that acquired implementation approvals in accordance with the new mining legislation of Tanzania.

"Completion of this process and the start of enterprise construction will become an important milestone for both Rosatom and the state government," elaborated Jivov.

According to the company, the measured and indicated resources of the project as on September 2011 is recorded to be 35,888 tons of uranium with inferred resources of 10,041 tons at an average grading of 0.024-0.025% uranium.
