Canadian hydro generator Manitoba Hydro has joined the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX), a group of north American companies that have formed a voluntary marketplace to reduce and trade greenhouse gas emissions.

Although some 98% of Manitoba Hydro’s power is generated from its hydro plants, it has some coal and natural gas-fired stations and it has committed to reducing emissions below their 1998-2001 baseline by 2006.

Manitoba Hydro will join American Electric Power, Baxter International Inc., the City of Chicago, E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company, Ford Motor Company, International Paper, MeadWestvaco Corporation, Motorola, Stora Enso North America, Temple Inland Inc. and Waste Management Inc. as founding members of the CCX.
