The company is planning to drill Ger Chuluu A1 to a target depth of 1,200m and into Jurassic/Paleozoic formation.

Gobi is expecting the well to reach the target depth and be logged by mid-September 2012 at a cost of about $1.8m.

Manas Petroleum president Werner Ladwein said, "Ger Chuluu A1 represents the next step in the evaluation of our Mongolian assets and a major step in the company development."

Gobi will test the well with a workover rig in case of a discovery, and then move the rig to the second well site which is located about 170km northeast of the first well.

The 2012 seismic survey covering a total distance of 335km is expected to be finished by 25 August 2012.

The program includes regional seismic and detailed prospect seismic which will be base for the 2012 and 2013 drilling locations.
