MAN President Alhaji Bashir Borodo said that the contract for the wind energy had been signed with a foreign technical partner to start work on the first phase of the wind turbines.
“I am convinced the board can deliver the mandate given to them. With the experience of all those on board we will accomplish the project,”said Borodo.
Borodo said that “I believe this is a very important moment for manufacturers in the country. We’ll do our best in order to make the project a reality.”
As per Borodo, MAN cannot resolve the problem of epileptic power supply affecting the entire country, but could help its own members.
“IPP is not a cheap venture. It is capital intensive and time consuming,” our source disclosed. “Over the years, the manufacturing sector had been bedeviled with the problem of inadequate power supply which has had negative effects on the performance of the sector,” said MAN.
“Manufacturers like Cadbury Nigeria PLC. PZ Cussons PLC, among other have had to rely on their own power generation to keep their factories running but self-supply of electricity is very expensive when compared to the tariff paid to PHCN who are sole source of power supply in Nigeria,”
“with the coming on stream of the MAN IPPs, cost of production will be significantly reduced as manufacturers will now have access to steady power supply while the need to depend on the use of generators at enormous cost will become a thing of the past,” said sources.
