Subrat Ratho, managing director of Mahagenco told ET that the construction of the plant is expected to begin by March 2010. He also stated that the company would acquire 842 acres for the construction of the plant.
He further said: “We have started acquisition of land. We are in the process of finalizing consultants for the project. The tenders will be called in September for the supply of boilers, turbines and other equipment.”
The total investment for the project is expected to be INR85.8 billion, which includes infrastructure development and development of coal mines at Chedipada in Orissa. The coal requirement for the project is around 6.88 metric million tonne per annum, stated one of the officials of Mahagenco.
The project, which is based on super critical technology, would initiate its power generation operations in 2014. The project would comprise two units with 660 MW of generation capacity each.
The funding for the project would be at a debit-equity ratio of 80:20. Power Finance Corporation and the Rural Electrification Corporation would raise the required debt and the equity from the state government.
Presently, the project generates 10,000 MW from coal, gas and hydro power plants. The company intends to add 2,000 MW of capacity through its Kapaskhera and Bhusawal projects in Maharashtra which are yet to start in 2010.
Further 3,000 MW to 15,000 MW of capacity would be added through its proposed projects at Chandrapur and Dondaiche in 2014. The generation capacity of Ratnagiri Gas Power Project has been rose to 950 MW from 600 MW, and is expected to further increase to 1,900 MW by March 2010.
