UK-based bridge engineer Mabey Bridge has opened a new $64m wind turbine factory in Chepstow, South Wales.

The facility is expected to produce 300 tubular steel towers a year, each 80 meters (262 feet) long and weighing 150 metric tonnes.

The company has also received an order from Hamburg-based turbine-maker Repower Systems (RPW) for nine towers.

The towers are expected to be installed at two wind farms in Yorkshire, UK.

The move marks the entry of the company into the renewable energy sector, reports Bloomberg.
