Iowa-based Luther College has signed a land lease agreement for the parcel of property to build a wind turbine electrical generation project.

The lease is a cooperative agreement among the college, private land owner Janelle Pavlovek and Wiltgen Construction, which operates a rock quarry on a portion of the tract of land.

The proposed wind turbine site is on the west side of US Highway, north of the Madison Road intersection. Luther College expects to complete the turbine construction project in the next 6-12 months.

The lease agreement will allow the college to go forward with plans to secure a turbine supply agreement and then install one 1.5MW or 1.65MW turbine that will generate approximately five million kWh of electricity per year, about one third of the college’s electricity consumption.
