The proposed plant, which will be located in Chimanimani, Manicaland province, is expected to produce power from timber waste, reported Allafrica.com
The biomass plant has been planned to aid the country in meeting its electricity demand of 2,000MW. Its current power generation capacity, however, is 1,200MW.
In a statement, Zera said, "The Zimbabwe Electricity Regulatory Authority hereby notifies the public that it has received an application from Lurosa Investments (Pvt) Limited to construct, own, operate and maintain a 2MW electricity generation station for the purpose of the generation and supply of electricity in Zimbabwe."
Lurosa, in its application, added that it will operate in the country under the name of Zimbabwe Green Energy.
Meanwhile, the authorities have granted license for 11 power stations in the country with a consolidated production potential of 5,400MW.
The projects are valued at $10bn are expected to be operational in next three to ten years.
