The secondary exploration target was to prove petroleum in reservoir sandstones in the Oligocene (the Grid formation), Upper Cretaceous (lower Shetland group), and in the Upper Jurassic.
The well was dry. The primary target encountered rocks with very poor reservoir quality. The secondary target encountered sandstones of moderate thickness and good reservoir properties, but these did not contain hydrocarbons.
25/10-9 is the first exploration well in production license 304, which was awarded in APA 2003.
The well was drilled to a vertical depth of 2,959 meters (m) below the sea surface, and was terminated in Middle to Upper Jurassic sandstones.
The water depth is 117m, and the well will now be permanently plugged and abandoned.
25/10-9 was drilled using the semi-submersible drilling facility Songa Dee, which will now proceed to production license 338, about 30 km further south in the North Sea, to drill appraisal well 16/1-12 on the 16/1-8 Luno oil discovery, operated by Lundin Norway.
The current licensees in production licence 304 are: VNG Norge (Operations) AS 20%, Aker Exploration ASA 30% and Lundin Norway 50%.
