Drilling has started on the company’s second Alta appraisal well in the Barents Sea South, appraisal well on the Edvard Grieg field in the Norwegian North Sea and on the partner-operated Zeppelin exploration well in the southern North Sea.

Located in PL609 around 4.3km south of the Alta discovery well 7220/11-1, the second Alta appraisal well 7220/11-3 will validate the reservoir model and determine the presence of hydrocarbon columns and fluid contacts.

Planned to be drilled to a depth of 2,070m, the well will also test the reservoir properties of the Permian carbonates and is being drilled using the drilling rig Island Innovator.

PL609 is operated by Lundin Norway with 40% stake, while partners DEA Norge and Idemitsu Petroleum Norge each hold 30%.

Located in PL338 in the southeastern part of the Edvard Grieg field, the Edvard Grieg appraisal well 16/1-23 S will determine geological model to optimize drainage strategy and the placement of development wells.

Planned to be drilled to a depth of approximately 2,200m, the well will also test upside reserve potential in the field, which is estimated to be up to 50 million barrels of oil equivalents (MMboe).

Lundin Norway operates PL338 with 50% stake, while OMV Norge holds 20%, Statoil Petroleum and Wintershall Norge each own 15%.

Operated by Wintershall, the Zeppelin exploration well 10/4-1 is located in PL734 in the southern North Sea 35km southeast of the Yme field.
