Lundin Petroleum, a Swedish oil and gas exploration and production firm, has commenced drilling operations at the 7120/2-3 exploration well in the production license 438, offshore Norway.

The well targets the Skalle prospect, which is situated to the north of the Snohvit field in the Barents Sea.

The main objective of the well is to test Cretaceous and Jurassic/Triassic age sandstones of a multiple target structure.

According to Lundin Petroleum, the Skalle prospect contains gross prospective resources of 250 million barrels of oil equivalent.

The well is being drilled using the Transocean Leader semi-submersible rig and the planned total depth is 2,650 meters below mean sea level.

Lundin Petroleum holds a 25% interest in the production license 438 and is its operator.
